A Champion.
Not everyone can say they were coached by a Pan American champion. Our students can.

Luis Patterson
Luis Patterson is one of the most accomplished épée fencers in the Caribbean and Pan American region. A Cuban-Jamaican athlete who represented Cuba for years before competing for Jamaica, he has spent a career at the very top of a sport dominated by a handful of elite nations.
Now he's bringing that experience to Burnaby, BC — coaching every student from the perspective of someone who has actually stood on the Pan American podium.
Beyond the club, Luis serves as an Athlete Mentor for Classroom Champions — an Olympic-founded non-profit that pairs world-class athletes with students across Canada and the USA to build resilience, goal-setting, and character.
Every session begins with footwork and movement — balance, distance, speed, and control. Luis builds athletes from the ground up, regardless of experience level.
Bladework, timing, decision-making under pressure, and defensive technique. The same mental framework he used competing at the Pan American level.
From local club tournaments to national-level events, Luis prepares athletes to compete with confidence — structured sparring with real coaching feedback.
